Tuesday

gentle, like a fly by

i was stomping through the lush streets of Boston looking for the perfect spot to toss my iPhone. according to Mitch Melnick, there was no better town to stage such a protest. the streets were steep and damp, like it had been raining for three years straight. i came across a simple little park square tucked away in some quiet intersection and had finally built up enough rage against the garbage bag i had been dragging along the entire time. this was going to be the place. except i was actually filming the entire thing with the same cell phone i was just about to launch; and in that way becoming the very bag i was tossing. so i threw myself in the air and noticed two cops on horseback who said nothing as i picked myself up rather anticlimactically. from there i made my way down to a deserted beach coastline dotted with the most spectacular high rises. it felt like the last day of a vacation cut suddenly short and i was determined to snap some memorable pictures before walking to the airport. the city felt like Tampa Bay meets Cape Canavarel - two places i had never visited - set some time in the distant future. i got to a spot where the sun was nicely framed by some asymmetrical buildings and started snapping. as i did, one of those strange Dr. Seus characters appeared in the shot and told me to visit when the water wasn't so warm. his words formed one of those cartoon speech bubbles as he spoke. there was one particular skyscraper i wanted to take a picture of. as I tilted the camera more and more to get the top of the building, i became aware that I had been hovering through the beach, not walking. and by the time i snapped the picture, i was in full flight.
